I regularly read the Loftus Town Crier and wonder if any of my old school mates would like to be in touch? My mother and father, Jack and Sally Dixon and my brothers Maurice, David and Frank came to Canada in the early fifties. We lived at 36 Queen Street Carlin How.Hope to hear from you. I contacted Mary Laverick in Australia.

Ruth - belated reply to your message re my reminisces about Skinningrove. Unfortunately mam & dad took us to Loftus when I was quite young and the only memories I have are those as a visitor, during my teens and prior to my departure to NZ.

I have read on your website a question in your edition of March 2007 about Peter Dalling vet;'The White Horse of course is a market place pub, and in 1889 VeterinarySurgeon Peter Watson Dalling, was it’s Land Lord, was it to supplement his income? Was it his hobby? or just a good place to drum up trade. Who knows?' Peter Dalling was my great grandfather. I think that he came to be owner of the White Horse through his father-in-law, William Smith. William ran The Three Tuns in Osmotherley for many years and by 1891 was at the Queen Hotel in Saltburn. The evidence I have suggests that inbetween he ran the White Horse in Loftus. Certainly, when Peter Dalling marries his daughter Elizabeth Smith in Loftus parish church in October 1887 William and his daughter Laura are the witnesses and Elizabeth's place of residence is said to be Loftus. It is interesting that when William Smith left the Three Tuns in Osmotherley the pub was then taken over by the husband of his eldest daughter, Th

I was born in Skinningrove in 1939 and when I was 5 my mam & dad (Nora & Frank) moved us to Loftus. I attended Loftus County Modern School. I served my time as a bricklayer and emigrated to NZ in 1961, leaving behind my parents and 9 brothers & sisters. I have 3 daughters, 1 stepson, 10 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren, with another one on the way. My 2nd wife & I have returned home 4 times in the last 26 years, to visit family (only just recently returning there in July/August this year). I missed many of my friends, as they have either passed on or were on holiday when we were there. If any of my old friends read this or if you know anyone who lived at Seymour Hill Terrace or Primrose Hill during the 40's - 60's, feel free to contact me.

I came across your website purely by chance and I was immediately captivated by the 'doings' in Loftus. You see, I lived at Hummersea Farm in the mid to late 70's when it was owned by Ada & Tommy Hart before they sold it to Vin Garbutt and moved on to Easington. I made many friends while I lived there but, alas, all are dead now apart from the Allinson family, whose daughter Judi I'm in regular contact with. I worked for a brief period in the benefit office in the Market Place and wondered if Maisie Smith was still alive. She worked there for many years until retirement and lived at 62 West Road, Loftus. Can anyone reading this tell me if Maisie is still alive? Also, is Fifi the bus-conductress still living in Skinningrove? We used to have great fun singing 40's big band songs to each other on the last bus from Whitby on Sunday nights when I was on my way home after helping out at a friends B&B for the weekend. Please contact me at riskassessor@telford.dlo.mod.uk.

I read an article in issue 109 regarding the whereabouts of the time capsule buried by the history group at Rosecroft School. I was one of the students who buried at the time and was asked by Mr Garrod at Christmas to go see if we could dig it up. Myself and Alec Silver found it and unfortunately the capsule wasn\'t totally watertight (blame Mr Walters who assured us it was!) so most of the items inside were ruined. Hope this helps Chris Lindsey
