Biographical newspaper cuttings held in Middlesbrough Reference Library
The Reference Library holds a collection of newscuttings, broadly biographical in nature, which include many 'worthy' characters as well as people of more general interest.
They are being indexed alphabetically by name, and grouped A-Z.
A collection of this type was formed, typically, by cutting out the relevant text, and mounting it on cardboard, with an index entry at the edge of the cardboard. Some of the cuttings in the collection date from the 19th century.
There is a brief description of each cutting, together with its source, and the date it was published.
The majority of the cuttings are taken from the Evening Gazette, which
is held in Middlesbrough Reference Library, from 15 November 1869, on microfilm.
