Re Visions

I was employed as Skinningrove artist in residence as a result of the Forum. I am looking to use self help and sustainable solutions to pollution. I have just finished my first thirteen days, were they lucky or unlucky?

I now have studio and sleeping accommodation at 14 Stone Row. I have met quite a few villagers and would like to meet more- (I am looking for people who might be interested in showing me their favourite walks and taking photos of the views they find most interesting to make a booklet.) I intend 14 Stone Row to be a place for residents to come and meet to develop visions into practical outcomes.

The Sub Group and I have decided on the following projects over the summer

1 Being able to use all the steps up and down the valley –the first being clearing Thomson’s or Nixon’s steps, that lead up to Chippies Bank from where the arch between the shops used to be. A big group turned out in wonderful sunshine. It took five hours of clearing undergrowth, digging out the soil and discovering the old cobbles and paving slabs. We had a good time. Seeing young people finding the steps playing on them, and then bringing back their families to see our miracle was good. Jean, Ian, Kevin, Terry, Denny, Rab, Tom, Margaret, Tich, Terry 2 and Adrian all put their backs into it to make this vision a reality.

2 An MSc student, Derek, will be working with me on the project. He’ll be looking at the practical possibilities from the energy sources- water, sun, wind etc in the village. He will meet you all at the next Link-Up meeting. The Young People, meeting outside the club, would like somewhere better to meet and more to do in the summer. Derek would like to meet them to talk about them helping on his projects. They have suggested it would be good to have a bench to sit on in front of the old betting shop. Watch that space over the summer.

3 On Saturday afternoon July 1st the plan is to clear up the ‘beach’ path, leading to Cattersty Sands. Tich has kindly offered tractor help to move the big stuff and the rest of us will clear the smaller stuff so we can enjoy a promenade with style!--------------EVERYONE WELCOME PLEASE COME ALONG.

4 July 30th –THE VILLAGE PADDLE . Lets make the beach nice, put up decorations, light a bonfire, set up a rounders pitch, bring food, musical instruments, sing and PADDLE till midnight. Bring whatever you want to bring, it’s your day. Look out for poster nearer the day.

5 I am contacting various agencies, a) to sort out a kiln so that we can make signs for the village and b) to acquire a computer for making a website, postcards, posters etc. and to do some computer work about the village with young people.
