Skinningrove

I’ve been surprised and delighted at the spirit of the place. There are strong emotions here, an energy. Its special, the more you look the more you see and feel.

There are layers of history in this small place. As well as a legacy, the orange beck there has been a legacy that is good.

Skinningrove should celebrate what it has. The metal in the earth, the people who extracted it and live with it now. It’s a rich inheritance. The mine buildings, the incredible slag cliffs, the building materials. Pigeon lofts and fisherman’s huts. There’s a colourful tapestry here; much of it based on iron. A steel and iron sculpture could become a focus point along a beckside walk. There may be beauty and value in things which so many think ugly. There’s natural beauty and wildlife here too. Spring is here. This place can and will have a new life. I’m sure.
